Our Philosophy

Why Katharine Botanicals products?

Katharine Botanicals products are formulated from a deep and broad experience of skincare products formulation.  They are based on a range from one of the first truly animal-friendly and eco-friendly companies that entered the market some 30 years ago, developed with the up-to-date knowledge available today.

They are manufactured to the highest standards and according to the ethical principles of the CICAW (Cosmetics Industry Coalition for Animal Welfare), and are fully approved by the Vegan Society and the BUAV.

So you can have full confidence in these superb hypo-allergenic products made with you and your baby in mind, and Katharine Graves is well known in the field of Hypnobirthing and personal care at the highest levels for the mother and baby.

What do we offer?

Preganant woman

Katharine Botanicals' aim is to provide you and your baby, both before and after birth, with the very finest, most tender and emollient of products possible.  Carefully formulated to deliver an effective mix of natural, plant-derived ingredients that have been used traditionally for many years.

Unlike artificially laboratory-synthesised products, since our active ingredients are original essential oils, plant oils, waxes and juices, they contain the full spectrum of goodness of the original plant.

You can rest assured that we will provide only the best products for you and your baby.

Effectiveness

Every Katharine Botanicals product contains a number of these ingredients which experience tells us is the most effective mixture.  There are single ingredient products on the market which are extremely good, but the human skin and related areas are so complex that frequently the best treatment solution is in fact a mixture of beneficial substances.

Effecitiveness

Just as drinking a cup of hot water and then munching some tea leaves does not have the same effect as drinking a cup of brewed tea and boiling water in the right proportions, so with a cream or lotion for a particular purpose.  We carefully look at what you need, and then create a mixture of the best ingredients in the best mixture to best satisfy those needs.

And (once again!) all active ingredients are only from natural origins.

Natural Ingredients

Many of Katharine Botanicals products contain Organic Calendula, an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory which soothes irritated tissue. Katharine Botanicals products are hypo-allergenic and naturally effective.

LilliesNO Parabens or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate
Katharine Botanicals does not allow the use of parabens or sodium lauryl sulphate in any of our products so you may rest assured on that question.

Eco-Friendly
All Katharine Botanicals products come in recyclable containers, as we care as much about the environment as you do.  All Katharine Botanicals products are fully biodegradable.

Animal-Friendly
Katharine Botanicals adheres to the highest standards of animal friendliness and are fully accredited by both the Vegan Society and the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection).  Look for their logos on our products.  Both these organisations also of course demand the highest standards of eco-friendliness from their members.

  • Psoriasis and Beauty in the Media

It has given me a great deal of pleasure to see several beautiful women in the US demonstrate their on-going psoriasis conditions. This includes Kim Kardashian Tweeting her “heart shaped” patch of psoriasis on her leg, America’s Next Top Model Contestant CariDee English choosing to have a glamour shoot that displays her condition across her arms and legs. In fact, the current Miss America Mabelynn Capeluj (crowned this month) is a sufferer of psoriasis who claims that this lead to her being bullied in school and forced her to paint her fingernails black to hide that they were crumbling away. All these beautiful women speaking up about living with psoriasis must surely give comfort to the thousands of sufferers who consider themselves unattractive simply because of the condition.

  • A little light treatment for psoriasis

It feels as if this winter has been neverending, with seemingly endless days of cold grey skies and rain. I read a newspaper report yesterday telling us that spring is actually a whole month later arriving this year, compared to last year. Sometimes, I fear that we’ll never see the sun again, but at least this weekend’s lovely weather at last gave me some cause for hope that it’s still out there!

  • Psoriasis Treatment Tips - Keeping Your Skin Moisturised

Don't forget to keep your skin reasonably moist as part of your psoriasis treatment regime. This is important because it's when your skin becomes dry that it tends to cause your condition to deteriorate, and we all know what that means - itching, scaling and a general discomfort.

A good way to maintain skin moisture is by taking a bath.  If you can manage to do this on a daily basis, so much the better. However, don't let the water get too hot as this can irritate your skin further.  You also need to be careful about what soap you use on your body, since some soaps can make matters worse.  So, always use a very soft, mild soap, ideally one made from natural ingredients without any harsh chemicals.  There are some very good liquid soaps available now which aren't at all harsh and which can be far more soothing than a bar of soap.

  • Psoriasis Treatment

“How do I cure my psoriasis” is one of the most frequent questions we get asked here at Katharine Botanicals. Sadly, this isn’t something we can promise you, because as yet, scientists haven’t been successful in developing anything which has been proven to cure your psoriasis for good.

Instead all we can offer are our natural products which can alleviate your symptoms gently, whether on the scalp or on other parts of your body, soothing your skin and hopefully offering you some respite from the painful itching, redness and discomfort many of you experience.

We have also found that for some reason as yet unknown, many treatments, whilst effective in the short term can suddenly cease to be so, forcing you to go back to searching again for another product to use. But we have also found that after a period of time and a break from a particular treatment, it is possible to try using it again with the same level of effectiveness as before.

Much work still needs to be done on finding a cure for psoriasis, and drugs trials continue, but we hope that one day, a cure will be found and you can say goodbye to your psoriasis forever.
