  • Psoriasis and Beauty in the Media

It has given me a great deal of pleasure to see several beautiful women in the US demonstrate their on-going psoriasis conditions. This includes Kim Kardashian Tweeting her “heart shaped” patch of psoriasis on her leg, America’s Next Top Model Contestant CariDee English choosing to have a glamour shoot that displays her condition across her arms and legs. In fact, the current Miss America Mabelynn Capeluj (crowned this month) is a sufferer of psoriasis who claims that this lead to her being bullied in school and forced her to paint her fingernails black to hide that they were crumbling away. All these beautiful women speaking up about living with psoriasis must surely give comfort to the thousands of sufferers who consider themselves unattractive simply because of the condition.

  • A little light treatment for psoriasis

It feels as if this winter has been neverending, with seemingly endless days of cold grey skies and rain. I read a newspaper report yesterday telling us that spring is actually a whole month later arriving this year, compared to last year. Sometimes, I fear that we’ll never see the sun again, but at least this weekend’s lovely weather at last gave me some cause for hope that it’s still out there!

  • Psoriasis Treatment Tips - Keeping Your Skin Moisturised

Don't forget to keep your skin reasonably moist as part of your psoriasis treatment regime. This is important because it's when your skin becomes dry that it tends to cause your condition to deteriorate, and we all know what that means - itching, scaling and a general discomfort.

A good way to maintain skin moisture is by taking a bath.  If you can manage to do this on a daily basis, so much the better. However, don't let the water get too hot as this can irritate your skin further.  You also need to be careful about what soap you use on your body, since some soaps can make matters worse.  So, always use a very soft, mild soap, ideally one made from natural ingredients without any harsh chemicals.  There are some very good liquid soaps available now which aren't at all harsh and which can be far more soothing than a bar of soap.

  • Psoriasis Treatment

“How do I cure my psoriasis” is one of the most frequent questions we get asked here at Katharine Botanicals. Sadly, this isn’t something we can promise you, because as yet, scientists haven’t been successful in developing anything which has been proven to cure your psoriasis for good.

Instead all we can offer are our natural products which can alleviate your symptoms gently, whether on the scalp or on other parts of your body, soothing your skin and hopefully offering you some respite from the painful itching, redness and discomfort many of you experience.

We have also found that for some reason as yet unknown, many treatments, whilst effective in the short term can suddenly cease to be so, forcing you to go back to searching again for another product to use. But we have also found that after a period of time and a break from a particular treatment, it is possible to try using it again with the same level of effectiveness as before.

Much work still needs to be done on finding a cure for psoriasis, and drugs trials continue, but we hope that one day, a cure will be found and you can say goodbye to your psoriasis forever.
